About Trisha

Hi! My name is Trisha Rettig and I run Catalyst dog training. I'm a PhD researcher by day, and a dog trainer by night. I've been training dogs for almost a decade for both sport and home. I was working with my own dog, Einstein, when I started teaching group classes. Over time, I branched out on my own, first teaching private lessons and seminars, and then offering my own classes. I have a passion for learning and passing my knowledge onto my students.

I have trained and shown three of my own dogs in a variety of sports. Einstein, the resident old man, has titles in obedience, rally, scent work and trick dog. He was also a certified therapy dog and earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen. Ros is currently showing in obedience and tracking, but has played in conformation, herding, and scent work. Hubble is the newest addition and has earned his beginner novice obedience title. He is currently training in obedience, hunt, tracking and scent work.

Training Philosophy

My goal as a trainer is to teach you how to train your dog. My methods rely on science and evidence-based training methods. My goal is to pass this knowledge on to my students so they can take this knowledge and apply it not only to their sport behaviors, but also change how they train everyday behaviors. I train using positive reinforcement and without the use of physical or verbal corrections. Dogs are trained using operant conditioning and building the drive to perform the behaviors we want. I focus on clean, clear, precise behaviors.

I also believe that training our dogs should be fun! Classes and lessons are full of laughter and support. Of course it is important to train outside of class, but I understand that sometimes life gets in the way. People get busy and sometimes we can't get to training. I want my students to enjoy their training, not be stressed by it.

Learning Options

Everyone has different needs and schedule, so I offer a variety of learning options around the Inland Empire. If you're the type that learns well from contact every week, I offer group classes in Riverside. If you need more one on one help, I also offer private lessons in Riverside or Redlands. If you have a busy schedule and can't commit to weekly options, I am also offering occasional seminars in Huntington Beach and Yucaipa.
